If you have a new passion project and are eager to get it on the internet, there are a few things to consider before you jump online and grab hold of your new social handles and go.

A passion project can include whatever it is that you need to stake your claim for online-

be that a business promoting products or services, a musician or artist displaying your portfolio, or a blogger painting pictures with words.

A little planning can go a long way for establishing your presence on the web.  Setting up the foundations correctly will allow you to grow online and make it easy for your audience to find you, follow you, and trust you.

Step 1: Firm Foundations

To ensure that your business is properly set up you must plant a correct and firm foundation before branching out.

Take action by:

  • Choosing a business/user name that is consistent across all social platforms and with your chosen domain are crucial (You don’t want your audience to wonder how to find you)
  • Determining the purpose of your business/passion project
  • Setting up any legal structure needed
  • Establishing a business bank account with your entity’s federal EIN #
  • Signing up for a payment processor if needed
  • Determining your accounting system
